Want to track your 2009 yardage (or “meterage”) and stay motivated to get in that distance swimming? Visit USMS’s “Go the Distance” page to download a spreadsheet that tallies your distance throughout the year. Submit your totals monthly to USMS to receive awards once you hit a swim milestone. Happy swimming in 2009!

“Spot” Jennifer in her transatlantic swim

Jennifer Figge is swimming across the Atlantic. You can track her progress in real-time at Jennifer’s SPOT page. She’s using the SPOT GPS device to broadcast her progress of her 2,100-mile (3,800K) attempt to become the first woman to swim across the Atlantic Ocean. Jennifer is 56 years old.

Steve Munatones of 10KSwimmer sums it up best, so check out his posting. Thanks for making the swim community aware of Jennifer’s attempt!

Early season open-water swims

December 20, 2008 at 12:44 pm | In Mid-Atlantic OW Races & Events | Leave a Comment

Happy holidays, all! Though it’s December and 2008 is drawing to a close, it’s time to start thinking about 2009 aquatic pursuits (not to mention those New Year’s resolutions to get in better shape). So I’ve compiled a short list of events that are mostly in the Mid-Atlantic states. You may want to consider making your open-water swim goal. And because we’re posting them here, there’s a chance the authors of this blog are considering or will enter them. That means you could have partners in aquatic crime. And isn’t it easier to sign up for a race knowing you’re not alone?

Thanks to Elizabeth for being instrumental in perusing the web to find many of these events!
